Dear VAGARA Members,
New year, new board, but same VAGARA action! Before we say goodbye to the beach and hello to the waterslide, I’d like to thank to all exiting board members, volunteers, and our membership that made last year’s activities a success. I am especially thankful for the leadership and guidance provided and continued to be provided by Past-President Jessie Graham. In addition, I’m grateful for all our new board members and the wealth of volunteers we have for our upcoming activities. It’s exciting to see many new faces volunteering to support our mission as it really shows the health of our organization. I’d encourage all who are able to take advantage of volunteer opportunities as they arise (you won’t regret it!).
Looking forward to this year’s conference (October 21-23, Great Wolf Lodge, Williamsburg), it’s fitting that with the 250th anniversary of our country Virginia records and archives professionals will convene together in Williamsburg. It’s awesome to reflect that the history of our nation and commonwealth is founded on the written record. We are the unsung heroes of managing and preserving that record in an unbroken chain from our predecessors. If you have to ability to join us this fall, I’d encourage you to make a quick trip to Colonial Williamsburg and stop by the Secretary’s Office, which is the oldest archival structure in the Western Hemisphere, and take a moment to contemplate that thought … I hope it helps you build a sense of pride in your work.
Outside our annual fall conference, we will be hosting a Records Management Month free virtual event for our membership this April (more in the Spring Newsletter). We have an action-packed year ahead and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you all.
Matt Logie
