Celebrate Records Management Month with VAGARA
Members are invited to join VAGARA for Records Management Month at the Library of Virginia. There will be two educational sessions followed by a complimentary boxed lunch and tours of special collections and current exhibits, as well as the State Records Center (off-site).
While this is a free event, registration is required, and space is limited.
Electronic Records Management: Making the Impossible Possible
Managing electronic records can feel like setting out on a solo mission to move the sun a couple inches to the left: impossible. But electronic records management doesn't have to be impossible. This presentation from Emily Johnson of LVA aims to address common questions and concerns related to managing electronic records, including hot topics such as email management, file naming, and popular vendors. Time will be provided at the end for a brief question and answer session.
ROT-roh! A Records Retention Mystery
Zoinks! My state agency’s network is haunted by 2.5 terabytes of inactive email accounts—most of them redundant, obsolete, or trivial (ROT)! If we don’t solve this case, our system will be bogged down forever! Jinkies! But with a plan, a little detective work, and time, we’ll have this mystery solved in no time! Join Amy Judd from VITA as we unmask the villain behind data hoarding by:
- Moving data off the network (because, like, that’s a lot of weight, man!)
- Using sampling data
- Writing a process for reviewing records—because every mystery needs a plan!
- And finally… START TRASHING!
Tours
Attendees will have lunch and get a tour of the current exhibit, “Mapping the Commonwealth,” research and operation centers, and the archival storage.
Afterwards, interested attendees can continue to the State Records Center for a tour of those facilities (5 miles east of downtown).
Limited parking is available at the library. See the visitors' guide for more information.
If you need to cancel your registration, let us know as soon as possible so that someone else can attend.
